LG's hybrid Watch W7 might launch in October

Back in April we learned that LG was working on a hybrid smartwatch that would put physical hands on top of Wear OS. It would be called the LG Watch Timepiece.

Reliable leakster Evan Blass now says that the Timepiece has been renamed the LG Watch W7, and that it will launch alongside LG’s V40 ThinQ smartphone, which is set to debut and launch in October.

The Watch W7 reportedly sports a 45.5 x 45.4 x 12.9mm stainless steel frame with IP68 resistance and Wear OS on a 360 x 360 1.2-inch LCD display. Above that display will be physical watch hands powered by quartz movement. There’s no GPS or NFC, but it will sport a Snapdragon 2100 processor with 4GB of storage and 768MB of RAM.

The watch hands will play with the LCD screen to help display information. This all sounds very similar to the MyKronoz ZeTime, which also sports a display with physical watch hands. We’ll have to wait and see whether LG is able to avoid the pitfalls of that device – a frustrating and half-baked OS.

The Watch W7 was originally supposed to launch way back in April, but that obviously did not come to pass. It’s unclear if LG has made any changes to the device in the past couple months, like upgrading that Snapdragon processor to the new 3100 or adding NFC or a number of other features.

Regardless, with the LG V40 set to launch soon it’s only a matter of time until we finally get to see what the company has cooked up with its hybrid smartwatch. Stay tuned.
